Well the first week of Uni is done and dusted and I'm not sure about anyone else but I am feeling a little overwhelmed and nervous about whats ahead. Until this week I had no idea what a Blog or Wiki was or how to use one for that matter but after playing around with them for a little while I realized they were a lot like facebook and well who doesn't know how to use facebook these days! I am a regular user of the internet, emailing and mobile phones but that is where my knowledge of the world of ICTs stops. I am excited to be learning about new ICT tools and how we can use these tools in the classroom to teach our students. Technology is becoming more and more apart of our lives and the opportunities are endless.
This week we had an activity on Learning Theories which I found quite interesting. I chose to do this task on my own due to other commitments this week. I chose the Learning Preferences topic - the reading was called 'Investigating online museum exhibits and personal cognitive learning preferences'. This paper has provided an overview of the contextual issues which surround the design of an online learning environment, with particular attention to an online or Web-mediated museum (Alwi & McKay, 2009)
I found the PMI approach of taking notes as an excellent way to analyse a reading. PMI which stands for Plus, Minus and Interesting helps to weigh up the pros, cons and implications of the reading. It helps you to see both sides of an argument so you are able to make an informed decision.
I look forward to learning about and getting ideas on how I will be able to use ICTs in the classroom to provide better learning opportunities for the students and for myself over the coming weeks.
